We will explore how to incorporate stitching on paper. We will embellish on previous work with stitching with thread or yarn.

Paint, Print and Stitch - MoCA Winter 2023

<aside> 🎒 Materials for Week 7 — Core Supplies + optional - extra supplies

We will stitch on paper, but you might also decide to stitch onto fabric remnants.

• Thread — this could be any type — embroidery floss, cotton thread, or yarn
• Needles — size depending if you will use thread or yarn
• optional* awl

Preference for stitching on thicker watercolor paper from your core supply list.

Considerations for Stitching:

• how might you introduce stitching to a piece for embellishments?
• how might you use stitching to bring together a piece?
• how might different threads or fibers create different textures on your piece?

I tend to use thread of the same colors in my paintings to create texture but that appear part of the painting.

Here I intentionally worked on color matching so that the paint was the same color as the paint. The painting style is inspired by Gunta Stölzl’s weaving style.
